David Warner's worst slump in International Cricket?
David Warner has scored just 6 runs each in the last two ODIs against England (under the aegis of the 2020-22 cricket world cup super league). It is not often that Warner gets out below 10 in two ODI matches in a row
The last time this happened was in 2016 against Sri Lanka.
He scored 8,1,10 and 14 in 4 matches in a row. And then he scored 106 in the 5th match.
Another mini slump was in 2018 against England. He scored - 8,13 and 15 in 3 games. This was before his one year ban
Another mini slump was in January 2017 against Pakistan, he scored 7,16 and 35. He then scored two centuries including his highest ever ODI score of 179.
During the cricket world cup of 2015, David Warner went through another slump, slightly longer this time with scores of 9, 24,21 and 12. He managed to score 45 in the World Cup Final to help Australia win the final against New Zealand
But probably the worst slump of Warner's career occurred in 2009. He had scores of 1,22,7,2 and 0. That is 32 runs in 5 games. He was dropped after that for 2 years.
In sum, Warner has seen slumps before but he has usually overcome them within 5 matches.
Warner's slump this time is a little peculiar because he has lost his wicket 4 times in 4 matches to Jofra Archer.
This is not the first time Warner has become a 'bunny' of an English bowler. In 2019, Warner became Stuart Broad's bunny getting out 8 times in the series. Broad kept attacking Warner on the stumps with absolutely no width to hit the ball around. Things got so bad that Warner actually reached out to Broad for advise.
The problem for Warner is that Archer now has one of the best matches per dismissal ratio against Warner. In 10 matches, he has gotten him out 7 times.
With the 3rd ODI also to be played in Manchester, Warner has little time to fix his batting woes in this series against Archer. He still could but that would be highly unpredictable. Dream11 players making multiple teams should be very careful about this.
IPL 2020 fans should not be worried, Warner is in great form in T20 and Emirates wickets are unlikely to help pace bowlers by much. Warner was the top performing batsman in IPL 2019.
