The Union Territory of Puducherry will go in for polls along with the four states of Assam, West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In 2016 assembly election, Indian National Congress won the most number of seats. Of 30 Assembly seats, INC won 15 seats and with the support of DMK SDA government was formed. DMK had won 2 seats.
The second largest party was AINRC which won 8 seats, AIADMK won 4 seats and BJP failed to open their account.
For the upcoming Puducherry Assembly election, BJP AINCRC and AIADMK will be contesting in an alliance. The three parties have finalised the seat sharing agreement with N Rangaswamy as their CM candidate. For the upcoming election, AINRC will be contesting on 16 seats, BJP on 10 seats and AIADMK on 4 seats.
As per the latest Puducherry Election Opinion Poll released by Times Now C Voters shows National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to form the government in Puducherry by grabbing 18 of the total 30 seats. As per the projections, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) may win anywhere between 16 to 20 seats in the Assembly Elections. Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is projected to bag around 12 seats. As per the poll, the alliance could win anywhere between 10 to 14 seats.

With polling concluding in Puducherry with high-voter turnout, all eyes are now on exit polls. But those waiting eagerly for the Exit Polls to get an indication of which way the wind is blowing will have to wait a little more. The Election Commission of India has banned conducting any exit poll and publicising it till 7.30 pm on April 29 . Counting will take place on 2nd May.

As per the 2011 Census, Puducherry has a total population of 12,47,953 out of which around 68% live in Urban area while rural population form around 32% of population.
The UT has 51% female population and 49% male population with around 16% population belonging to SC Category and rest 84% to General category.
The Union Territory has had a very high voter turnout. In 2016 Assembly election, there was 83.6% voter turnout and in 2019 Lok Sabha election voter turnout was 81.5%

Puducherry has one Lok Sabha seat. In 2019 Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress won the only seat Lok Sabha of the Union Territory.
Congress contested the election in an alliance with DMK while BJP supported the local political party AINRC.
Congress got around 57% of total votes polled while AINRC got 31.36% vote share. Kamal Hasan's MNM got 4.81% vote share.

Ahead of Assembly election, the Congress led UPA government in Puducherry has lost the majority. Congress had 14 members and, along with the DMK's two and one independent, was just past the majority mark of 16. However, after the resignation of 2 MLA's the government now has 14 MLA's which is 2 short of majority.
On the other hand, opposition than NDA headed by AINRC also has 14 MLA's. The current strength of Assembly is 28.
Amid the political crisis in Puducherry, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi was removed and Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan had been given additional charge of UT. Chief Minister of Puducherry V. Narayanasamy termed the removal of Kiran Bedi as Governor as victory of people. It must be remembered that Puducherry CM and former Lt Governor Kiran Bedi have been in battle against each other on various aspects of administration.
Not only this with the help of Kiran Bedi BJP had been trying to make ground for itself in Union Territory. However, it is still unknown why Bedi was removed but there are rumors' of her taking charge as Lt Governor of Delhi.

Puducherry Assembly Election 2021: Opinion Poll
Crowdwisdom360 has not conducted any poll in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The latest opinion poll for the upcoming Assembly election in Puducherry was released by ABP News in association with C-Voters.
As per the opinion poll, NDA has an edge over the ruling Congress led Secular Democratic Alliance. The poll show that SDA will increase its vote share by 3.1 per cent that is from 39.5 per cent vote share in 2016, it is expected to get 42.6% this time.
NDA (AINRC + BJP + ADMK) received just 30.5 per cent vote share last time but is all set to get 44.4% in upcoming election.
The polls show that SDA will win just 14 seats this time as compared to 17 in the last assembly polls while NDA may get simple majority of 16 seats in 30 member Puducherry Assembly.
