After the death of sitting MP H Vasantakumar due to Coronavirus, the Lok Sabha seat of Kanyakumari has been lying vacant since 28th August 2020.
The by-election to Kanyakumari Lok Sabha will be held on 6th April along with Tamil Nadu and Kerala Assembly election. In 2019 Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress won this seat. It was previously held by Pon Radhakrishanan who had won the it in 2014.
In 2019, INC which was in alliance with DMK got almost 60% vote share in this seat while BJP in alliance with AIADMK got just over 35% vote which was almost 3% less than what it had polled in 2014 Lok Sabha election.

Kanyakumari By Election: Who are the Candidates?
The upcoming Kanyakumari Lok Sabha by election will once again be the alliance battle instead of individual party battle like in 2014 Lok Sabha election.
DMK and INC will be fielding their candidate and BJP and AIADMK will be contesting in an alliance. Kamal Hasan’s MNM is also expected to contest from here. In 2019, MNM candidate polled just 0.82% vote share.
BJP has fielded former MP of Kanyakumari Pon Radhkrishnan as their candidate while Anetter Allwyn is NTK's candidate for upcoming Kanyakumari by election. Congress is yet to name their candidate.
Kanyakumari By Election: About the Seat
Kanyakumari is one of the 39 Lok Sabha seats of Tamil Nadu. It was formed after the delimitation in 2008 by merging Kanyakumari assembly segment from the erstwhile Tiruchendur constituency with the erstwhile Nagercoil constituency.
Kanyakumari Lok Sabha has an interesting religion composition. Both Hindu and Christian population somewhat have and equal share in population composition. The Lok Sabha seat has, as per 2011 Census, 48.6% Hindu population and 46.9% Christian population. Islam form only 4.2% of the population.
As for population is concerned, out of the total Kanyakumari population for 2011 census, 82.33 percent lives in urban regions of district while 17.67% population of Kanyakumari districts lives in rural areas of villages.
Kanyakumari By Election: What happened in Lok Sabha 2019 election?
In 2019 Lok Sabha election, Tamil Nadu saw a contest between the alliance in the state. The two alliance NDA led by AIADMK and UPA led by DMK in Tamil Nadu were up against each other.
The election saw a complete rout of AIADMK alliance in the state. Of 39 seats in the 17th Lok Sabha, DMK+ or UPA won 38 while NDA alliance could win only one seat.
In Kanyakumari, UPA candidate, H Vasantakumar polled almost 60% while NDA candidate Pon Radhakrishnan got 35% vote share. The seat was previously held by BJP.
