Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, on Monday said that a nationwide NRC will be implemented, and all the illegal migrants will have to leave before 2024 Lok Sabha.
A Supreme Court monitored NRC exercise was carried out in Assam and around 1.6 lakhs citizens have been excluded from the Citizen list. However, as per some unofficial report, Assam’s Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has asked the central government to reject the recently updated NRC data.
Amit Shah’s remark came during a public address in Jharkhand where the assembly elections is taking place. Shah even took a dig at Rahul Gandhi and asked him that why was he against NRC. Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, too echoed the words of Amit Shah during his public address at Bokaro. He said, “We will implement the NRC across all states of the country. Every Indian has a right to know who the illegal immigrants in their land are. Some parties accuse us of being communal,"
Congress Leader in Lok Sabha Adir Ranjan Chowdhary on Sunday accused BJP of promoting religious discrimination. He lashed out at Prime Minister Modi and Home Shah and labelled them as migrants of Gujarat. “I can say that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah ji are themselves migrants. Their homes are in Gujarat but they have come to Delhi. Whether they are legal or illegal migrants, it will be known later”, he said.
Former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the Congress will take leadership role in building an alliance with like-minded parties against the controversial citizenship bill and proposed Nationwide NRC. Addressing a press conference at Guwahati, he said, "The prime minister and home minister don't want people to concentrate on real issues, to think about the present economic condition of the country. The situation has worsened. It was far better in past seven years. It is an insult to the people of the country talking about NRC, Citizenship Amendment Bill at this moment.”
BJP has been firm in implementing nationwide NRC. The leadership is looking for ways to implement it in West Bengal where the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is ready to take action agianst on BJP’s any move to implement it.
