All four accused in the rape and murder of Disha, a veterinarian in Telangana have been encountered by the Telangana police.
As per ANI, the Cyberabad Police had bought the four accused to the crime spot to re-construct the sequence of events. The accused snatched weapon and fired on Police. In self defence the police fired back in which the accused were killed. Cyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar confirmed that the accused Mohammed Arif, Naveen, Shiva and Chennakeshavulu were killed in a Police encounter at Chatanpally, Shadnagar between 3AM and 6AM.
On November 26, the 26 year old Disha was brutally raped and then set ablaze when she was on her way back home after a medical check-up at Gachibowli. She was abducted near Tondupally toll gate. Her charred body was found at the underpass near Chatanpalli.
Recently KTR, son of Telangana CM KCR and current Minister of IT of the state in his twitter handle posted that all the perpetrators have been nabbed. But I wonder how we can offer solace to the grieving family seeking justice.
A nationwide protest erupted after the news of charred body of 26-year-old veterinary doctor was found. Reacting to the killing of the four accused in the encounter, the victim's sister said, "We are happy. We did not expect this. We thought they would be hanged through courts. We thank everyone who stood by us. With this incident people should be scared to indulge in such crimes (against women),"
Since the encounter, there has been mixed reaction to few. Few referred to it at justice delivered while some called it to be failure of police force. However, Disha’s case might be over for now but as a society it is for us to decide on the action of police force against the rapists. We need to decide if it was the only way towards justice or was it the failure of police force and government who simply wanted to save their faces and thereby took such action.
