Six including a police officer were killed on Tuesday gun battle that rocked the streets of Jersy City, New Jersy. For an hour there was heavy sounds of gunfire. One officer was pronounced dead at hospital and multiple others were found dead at the scene.
The fallen officer was identified as Det. Josephs Seals, a 15-year veteran of the department.
The shooting took place at two scenes, starting at a cemetery, where the officer was shot, and continuing at a kosher supermarket, where five more bodies including two of the suspects were found.
As soon as the gun fire was heard, police blocked off the area. All the schools in Jersy City was locked down. SWAT teams, state police and federal agents converged on the scene. Several police officers were shot in the standoff.
Governor Murphy tweeted, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the men and women of the Jersey City Police Department, especially with the officers shot during the standoff, and with the residents and schoolchildren currently under lockdown,"
President Trump took to twitter to condemn the attack. In his tweet, he called the shooting "horrific", adding that his "thoughts & prayers are w/ the victims & their families".
After hours of gun battle, two suspects were neutralised. It is reported that schools in the area will open with delayed timing. Investigation are on with respect to the Jersy City shooting.
