The Upper House of Parliament is set to see a big number change in 2020.
Currently the house has 245 seats (233 for states and Union territory ) 12 nominated by President of India. Out of 245 current members 65 members are set to retire in 2020. Here I take look how it pans out for each state.
Two members from INC and 1 member each from TDP & TRS are retiring in month of April. The YSRC has swept the state assembly election in 2019. The 151 assembly seats will easily help YSRCP to win the 4 seats of Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant.
Lone member from Congress is set to retire in April 2020. BJP has swept Arunachal Pradesh assembly by securing 41 seats in recent assembly elections. BJP is sure to get the lone Rajya Sabha seat from the state.
The Rajya Sabha seat held by BDF party is set to fall vacant in 2020. BJP can retain this seat as it has got majority in Assam assembly.
5 members from NDA are retiring from Rajya Sabha in month of April 2020. NDA can 4 seats easily, UPA or MGB may have to settle for 1 seat.
One member each from BJP and Congress will be retiring in 2020. Congress is set to win both the Rajya Sabha seats.
2 members from BJP and 1 from Congress is set to retire in April 2020. With the support of smaller parties, BJP may win all the 3 seats from the state.
Congress member from the state is retiring in month of April 2020. BJP with the help of JJP and independents may be able to win this seat.
Bjp is set to gain this seat from Congress as BJP has majority in the state.
Independent and one RJD MP is to retire in month of April 2020. This depends on assembly results.
2 members of INC & 1 member each from BJP and JD(s) set to retire in the month of June. BJP is set to gain 1 seat from INC & JD(s) is set to lose the seat.
2 BJP members are retiring in month of April. BJP will retain 1 seat & Congress is set to gain 1.
7 members are set to retire in month of April 2020. Current strenth UPA-4 NDA- 2 Independent- 1.
BJP will retain the Rajya Sabha seat from state in April 2020.
NDA is set to gain seat from Congress in April 2020.
NDA is set to gain seat from INC in July 2020.
3 members are retiring in April 2020. BJD is set to gain 1 seat from Congress.
3 members are retiring in April 2020. INC is set to gain 2 seats & BJP is set to retain 1 seat.
4 members of AIADMK & 2 members of DMK+ is set to retire in April. Both the parties will retain strength.
TRS is set to gain 1 seat each from BJP & Congress in month of April 2020
4 members of Samajwadi Party, 1 member of INC, 2 members of BSP & 3 members of BJP are set to retire in month of November. BJP is set to gain 6 seats from here & SP will retain only 1 seat.
BJP is set to gain seat from Congress in November 2020.
5 members are retiring. TMC is set to gain 1 seat from Independent.
In total of 65 seats which are set to be vacant due to retirement(excluding Jharkhand). UPA has 28 members and will retain only 19 members in 2020. NDA which has 25 of the 65 members will be able to win 34 members in 2020. Mamata Banerjee’s TMC is set to add up one more member to its tally of 4 and take it to 5. YSRCP which has zero from the above mentioned 65 members is set to its tally to 4.BJD has 2 members & is set to take tally to 3. BSP will lose 2 members. TDP & TRS losing its lone member. Two Independent members are set lose.
