Rafael Nadal vs Schwartzman French Open Betting Odds : The 2nd Grand slam of the year ‘Roland Garros’ or commonly called as the French Open was postponed with the corona pandemic scare. The 90th edition was finally underway with the main draw matches starting on 27th September. With Roger Federer away from the tour, the top three seeds for the tournament was allotted to Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and defending US champion Dominic Thiem.
When we talk about French Open, we are mainly focused on the 12-time winner Rafael Nadal. Nadal just made it to a record 13th semi-final appearance after taking out young Italian Jannik Sinner in three sets after a two hour and 49 minutes contest that ended late at night in Paris. He will face Argentine Diego Schwartzman on Friday at the Phillipe Chatrier.
Schwartzman took down the reigning US open champion Dominic Thiem in an epic that lasted for 5 hours and 8 minutes.
Come Friday, the king of clay would like to keep his unbeaten record at the semis while Schwartzman would look to make history by becoming just the third man to defeat Nadal at clay court when he faces Nadal.

Nadal vs Schwartzman semifinal prediction and betting analysis: Recent Form
Rafael Nadal didn’t have a particularly good restart to the season after he decided to skip the US open series with a quarter final defeat against Schwartzman in the Italian Open. It was one of the rare occasions where Nadal was entering the French Open without winning an ATP level title.
Schwartzman had a good run in the tournament before finishing as the runner-up against World No.1 Novak Djokovic.
Nadal had a tough draw with a potential 2nd round clash against Kei Nishikori, quarter-final against US open runner up Sascha Zverev and a semi-final setup against Dominic Thiem going into the tournament.
To his luck, every tough opponent was ousted way before he had to face them and it seemed like an ATP 500 tournament. Nadal ousted unseeded Gerasimov in his 1st round match, blew past McDonald in the 2nd and lost just 5 games against Travaglia in the third-round match. The toughest opponent up until now was Sinner whom he dispatched in straight sets to take on the first seeded player in the semis.
Diego Schwartzman was seeded 12th for this grand slam with a potential quarter-final spot. He had little challenge in the initial rounds taking down Kecmanovic in the first and Giustino in the second round without dropping a set.
He didn’t break any sweat in the next two clashes against Gombos and Sonego respectively but a big game against Dominic Thiem was on the cards. Theim had defeated Hugo Gaston in 4th round to enter the quarters.
Schwartzman was at his imperious best as he tired out the Austrian with his baseline rallies and occasional drop shots but had to go the distance to earn a major win in his career to make it to his first ever grand slam semifinal.
Nadal vs Schwartzman semifinal prediction and betting analysis: Head-to-head
Matches – 10
Rafael Nadal – 9
Diego Schwartzman – 1
On Clay: Nadal – 4, Schwartzman - 1
On Hard: Nadal – 5, Schwartzman – 0
Even though it is clear that Rafael Nadal is the overwhelming favorite to make it to this 13th French Open final, Diego Schwartzman doesn’t have much to lose and will try to give it all on Friday. The pair have met once in 2018 Roland Garros when Schwartzman was able to take a set off Nadal but the Spaniard didn’t waste any time after that to finish in four sets.
The only positive for Schwartzman is the fact that their last meeting went in his favor when he beat the Spaniard 6-2, 7-5 in the quarter-final of the Italian Masters 1000.
Looking at their 2020 record, Nadal has 15-4 win-loss record whereas the Argentine has 15 wins to 9 losses this year.
Even though it seems unfair on Schwartzman’s part, it will take a superhuman effort to take out someone who has won 98 matches out of 100 in his most favorite grand slam tournament.
Nadal vs Schwartzman semifinal prediction and betting analysis:
The semifinal clash between Rafael Nadal and Diego Schwartzman is scheduled on 9th October at the Phillipe Chatrier. The betting platforms have most certainly expected Rafael Nadal to win this in 4 sets with a lot running against the argentine player.
For the record, Rafael Nadal is 12-0 in French open semifinal and is yet to drop a set this year. You know he is back into the groove when he rips that forehand down the line with heavy topspin standing at least 6 feet away from the baseline.
On the other hand, Schwartzman has got two days to prepare for this big clash. In the match he will have to repeatedly draw Nadal wide to his backhand side and open up the court to hit a precise winner without getting passed for at least 3 or more hours.
The betting platform, Bet365 places the bets for Nadal at 1.14 and for Schwartzman at 5.5.
Regardless of whatever has happened in the past, 2020 has sprung a lot of surprises, but Nadal losing the French open semi-final still looks a little far-fetched.
