It is set in Poland between 1939 and 1945, and deals with the Holocaust, during which millions of Jews in Europe were subjected to a process that involved being gathered into ghettos, starved, forced to work without wages, hunted down, deported to camps, and systematically killed.

Spirited Away is an animated movie by Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki. The movie is about the 10-year-old Chihiro and her parents who happen to visit a seemingly abandoned amusement park. In the park Chihiro comes across a magical world where a witch rules an those who disobeys her are turned into animals.

7 The Green Mile

The Green Mile is about the head guard of a prison, Paul Edgecomb who meets an inmate, John Coffey, a black man who is accused of murdering two girls. His life changes drastically when he discovers that John has a special gift. The movie is directed by Frank Darabont and stars Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke, David Morse and others.

8 Interstellar

The movie is based upon the a group of astronauts travelling through a wormhole in search of another inhabitable planet when the life on earth is at brink of extinction. The movie stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastin and others. The movie is directed by Christopher Nolan.

9 The Departed

IMDB Rating: 8.5

The Departed is a story about an undercover agent and a spy constantly trying to counter-attack each other in order to save themselves from being exposed in front of the authorities. Meanwhile, both try to infiltrate an Irish gang.

The movie is directed by Martin Scorsese and it stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg.

10 The Intouchables

The Intouchablesis a French comedy-drama film directed by Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano. In the movie an unusual friendship develops between a street smart immigrant when he is hired to take care of a disabled French nobleman.

The movie is available in both French and English language. In UK the movie is known as Untouchables.

11. Taxi Driver

Again an old classic, released in 1975. Starring Frank Adu and Victor Argo, directed by Martin Scores. In this movie, an ex- Marine and Vietnam war veteran is drives a cab at night time in New York City. In doing so he also makes some efforts to clean the city from corruption. 

Travis Bickle manages to be a simple character and a complex one at the same time. The seediness of New York by night is intense, helped along by a lone saxophone.

12 Inglourious Basterds

Directed and written by Quentin Tarantino the Inglourious Basterds is a movie that starts in Nazi-occupied France during World War II. In the movie a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincides with a theatre owner's vengeful plans for the same.

The movie stars Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, Eli Roth.

13. The Perks of Being Wallflower

The movie is directed by Noah Baumbach. It's a comedy-drama. The movie is about a story of a director and his wife who's an actor and how their divorce pushes them to their horrible limits. Baumbach opens with each of his protagonists reading a piece they wrote for a mediator that highlights the strengths of their partner.

This is a film about the intersection of crime and politics, Mafia history and Washington history. 

16.    E.T The Extra-Terrestrial

Directed by Steven Spielberg, it was released in 1982. Henry Thomas acting as Elliott and Drew Barrymore as Gertie.

It's a family sci-fi movie. It's a story about a child and an alien. He was discovered by the child. But alien and child become friends.

After this, the courageous child helps the alien to escape the earth. 

Its themes of loyalty, trust, and caring are both affecting and easy to understand, and Elliott and E.T.'s extraordinary friendship is one of cinema's most enduring.

17.    Moonrise Kingdom

The Moonrise Kingdom is a 2012 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Wes Anderson and starring Bruce Willis, Edward Norton.

It's a story of young lovers who flee from their town. The same giant storm approaches. So their families have to find them before the storm strikes.

"Moonrise Kingdom" creates such a world and takes place on an island that might as well be ruled by Prospero. It's set in 1965.

The American Gangster is about an outcast New York City cop who is charged with bringing down Harlem drug lord Frank Lucas, whose real life inspired this partly biographical film.

The movie is directed by Ridley Scott and it stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in their first lead acting roles together since 1995's Virtuosity.

The Social Network was released in 2010. It's a historical drama directed by David Fincher casting Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield.

It is a story of Mark Zuckerberg and the birth of social media platform Facebook. Mark created Facebook with the help of his friend Eduardo, which was as we know is a very successful venture. But it tells us about sacrifices he made ties he broke along the way.

From a filmmaking standpoint the story was told incredibly well by one of the greatest screenwriters of his generation, Aaron Sorkin, using the legal proceedings as the wraparound for the plot from start to finish was a clever device that intrigued and enlightened without being a distraction. 

20.   The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Released in 2008, this movie is related to the incident of WWII. It is directed by Mark Heyman. It is based on a novel by John Boyne.

The movie stars Asa Butterfield and Domonkos Németh. In the movie Bruno is the son of the commandment of a German concentration camp during WWII. He became friends with a Jewish boy which leads to unexpected consequences.

Given the subject matter, the film -- which culminates in a room full of people being killed with poison gas -- could be difficult to watch for viewers of any age. There's also some drinking and smoking and concentration camp violence.

The story is partially inspired by The Scarlet Letter as Emma Stone plays a charismatic high schooler named Olive who, on a whim, pretends to hook up with a classmate to help hide the fact that he’s gay.

Emma Stone's breakthrough role and is on par with Mean Girls in its bleakly honest humor and polished zeal. 

23. Snowden

The movie Snowden is based on the book The Snowden Files by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus (2015) by Anatoly Kucherena. The movie was released in 2016 and it stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Edward Snowden, a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) subcontractor and whistleblower who copied and leaked highly classified information from the National Security Agency.

24. 12 Strong

12 Strong is an American action-war film directed by Nicolai Fuglsig and written by Ted Tally and Peter Craig.

The movie related to September 11 attack on USA. In the movie Captain Mitch Nelson leads a US Special Forces team into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. Once there, the soldiers develop an uneasy partnership with the Northern Alliance to take down the Taliban and its al-Qaida allies.

25. U 571

U-571 is a 2000 submarine film directed by Jonathan Mostow and starring Matthew McConaughey, Harvey Keitel, Jon Bon Jovi, Jake Weber, and Matthew Settle.

The movie is about American submariners boarding a German submarine disguised as Germans. They are to infiltrate the security and steal the Nazi's top-secret Enigma machine.
